So my little Liza bug is now nine months old. She is just as precious as ever and so much fun to spend every.waking.second with! Here is what our little boogie is doing--
Nine month stats:
Weight: 20.5 lbs.
Height: 28 inches
Clothing/Diapers: At nine months, Eliza is wearing 12 month clothes. She can fit into 9 months still, but most are snug and a little short in length. She wears size 3 diapers. We are trying to put shoes on her here and there, but little bug tends to kick them off quicker then we can put them back on! So needless to say we don't fight that battle too often.
Sleeping patterns: Eliza has been taking a little bit longer morning naps. When I say a little bit longer that means her morning "cat naps" average 30-45 minutes. She takes longer afternoon naps that average 1-2 hours (longer if we let her sleep past 4pm). Bedtime continues to be around 8:30pm and she usually wakes around 6:30-7. We would love moving her bedtime up half an hour or so, but Liza just doesn't seem tired and fights being put down any earlier so we feel it's fine for her to have a little extra play/snuggle time with Mommy and Daddy for now. Now when Eliza is tired she starts twirling her hair and playing with her ear while nursing. I think it's more of a calming/relaxing action. It's pretty cute watching her do that. We usually don't see much thumb sucking these days, but as you can see in the photo below it does happen every now and then :)
Eating habits/Food: It was a big month in the area of food as we started table foods! Some favorites of Eliza's include: pasta, peas, sweet potatoes, toast, cottage cheese, cheerios, ground turkey, and shredded cheese. She also loves yoyo baby yogurt in pretty much any flavor. Liza is not fond of white potatoes or bananas right now. I think the texture of banana's is throwing her off so hopefully she'll take to them soon. We continue to give her pureed foods every now and then to use up what I made in the freezer, which luckily she doesn't mind eating.
Eliza continues to nurse between eating table foods-about 3 times a day. We took her lunchtime (noon) nursing away as she wasn't consuming much at that time since she had just eaten lunch. She also continues to have supplemental bottles of formula as our sitter deems necessary--usually 1-2 bottles of anywhere from 2-4 oz.
New Discoveries: Eliza has now moved from army crawling to crawling on all four's. I swear this happened in a matter of a day! We couldn't believe it. Of course now that she crawls she is also pulling up on EVERYTHING-chairs, the couch, Mommy, Daddy, whatever she can get her hands on. Around 9 1/2 months, Eliza lost interest in crawling and wanted to stand up and try to let go/balance. She would still crawl if she needed to get from point A to point B, but preferred pulling up and standing. When she let's go to balance she typically stands for 1-2 seconds before gently letting herself down to the ground...it's pretty cute. Needless to say her crib has been dropped down to the last level!
Interests: Eliza LOVES books! Her eyes light up when she has a book in front of her to look at all the pictures. Her favorite book continues to be Little Bea--and Mommy and Daddy could recite it by heart! Liza also likes her music toy, which now she enjoys even more since she can stand up to hold onto it. She plays with her shape sorter (more like puts the shapes in her mouth), loves knocking down her stacking cups, and anything that shakes and makes noise.
Speech: Eliza continues to make raspberries with her lips and tongue. She babbles frequently and is able to say "mama", "dada", "ba", and now is using the /p/, /v/, and /n/ more frequently. Liza understands the word "no" especially when we say it in a stern voice; however will continue to go back to doing what we said "no" to...there's no way she could get her stubbornness from her Mommy :) OH BOY! We continue to do sign language with her as well. We use the following signs: more, eat, milk, bath, sleep, book, Mama, Dada, no, and dog. She definitely understands milk, book, no, bath, eat, more, and Mama/Dada.
Special Memories: Lots happened at the nine month point for Eliza. We started off nine months in Florida for Uncle Matt and Aunt Kim's wedding. We enjoyed a few days there and were able to let Eliza experience the Gulf of Mexico with her cousins. She was not a fan. The waves and salty water didn't do much for her :) I can't blame her...I'm not a fan of coming out of the water feeling sticky. She did great on the flight to and from (as Mommy was pretty nervous about it). She slept a little bit on the way down, but mostly played and watched everyone around her. She was so good that we had quite a few passengers tell us what a good girl she was--PROUD :) It helped going into the flight knowing there were about 7-8 baby's in total on our flight. Eliza slept through all of the ceremony, but was ready to go after that.
We had a few play dates too. First, we were able to hangout with my Mommy group friend Amanda and her little girl Reese. We went over to their house for a BBQ/football game. Everyone had a great time, and it was such a small world that Mike and Amanda's husband Michael knew a few of the same people. It was great watching Reese and Eliza crawl after each other and play. So different from our old play dates of setting the car seats next to each other as the babies would sleep! We were also able to see Jordan and meet her little girl Gia! It was so much fun getting together with all my childhood friends and have our kids play together. Gia is such a cute little peanut and looks just like her Mommy! I can't wait to see them play together again soon!

Grandma Judy also began watching Eliza. Our sitter Laura watches Liza three days and Grandma Judy watches her the other two days. It's nice for Mommy to let Liza sleep in on those days that she doesn't have to leave the house (that is when she wants to sleep in).
Eliza celebrated her first Halloween. She dressed up as a ladybug and I think she was the cutest one around! We went trick-or-treating with our neighbors which was fun. Mommy took Eliza up to a few doors, but felt a like people were wondering why Eliza would need candy. I'm sure they thought it was for me, but I don't eat candy and just wanted her to experience it. Oh well...Liza was a little trooper and loved watching all the kids run from house to house. She also watched Mommy and Daddy carve her first pumpkin. Not much interest in it, but when it was done she definitely wanted to hold on to it.

Odds and Ends: Eliza has started smiling on cue when a camera is in front of her. It's entertaining to say the least. She's such a happy girl and loves watching others. She grunts when she is frustrated or not getting her way (OH BOY!). Eliza is starting to figure out how to wave "bye-bye." She sticks her arm straight out with her hand open, but doesn't quite get how to open and close her hand or move her arm back and forth, but she will get there. Eliza also is starting to imitate more vocally. If I make raspberries or change the volume of my voice she will often follow suit. Granted she tests her volume way more than Mommy does! Another thing Eliza does is pull on her hair or Mommy's hair. She is fascinated with my hair. She will pull the smallest strand on my head and strike a nerve! When she nurses, she will often pull on her hair. Not sure why she's doing that, but hopefully it's something that will stop sooner then later. The condo is now childproofed. Gate is up, outlets are plugged, cabinet locks are on...we keep a close eye on Liza bug and crawl around with her to see what we need to baby proof next :) Liza is using her left hand more than her right these days too. She has a great pincer grasp when she picks small objects up, but prefers to use her left hand to pick them up. So we'll see what happens. We're not pushing her one way or the other at this point. Hey, maybe she'll be ambidextrious!
